AC Power Connectors

AC Power Connectors

An AC power connector is a type of electrical connector which is used for carrying a significant amount of electrical power. An AC electrical power connector provides electrical power to external electrical equipment, like printers, computers, disc drives and a variety of other electronic devices. Ranging from a simple AC inlet and outlet to sophisticated power entry modules these power connectors combine the functions of multiple electrical components into a single device. There are different styles of AC connectors available for addressing different wiring systems.

These ac power connectors vary in configuration standards, geometry and gender. Male power connectors can be plugged into female connectors such as outlets and jacks. The female end can be plugged into the computer, monitor, or other peripheral. In terms of geometry, while some power connectors are straight, others bend at a right angle.

There are different mounting options available for AC power connectors. These are:

* Flange mounted connectors
* Wall or box receptacles
* Solder / weld mount receptacles
* End launch connectors
* Surface mount connectors

AC power connectors have many different ways of terminating electrical connections. These basic methods include:

* Cage clamps
* Crimps
* Screws
* Lugs
* Solder cups
* Quick release tabs
* Wire wraps

Safety Issues
A variety of ac connectors are manufactured all across the globe for preventing misapplication by users. The receptacles are specially designed for accepting appropriate connectors. The connectors manufactured differently for various utilization voltages for preventing equipment designed for one voltage to be connected to another by mistake. Application of a voltage higher or lower than the voltage required by the equipment can be damaging and may present a fire hazard.

These ac power connectors are also manufactured differently for accommodating utilization at different power levels even at the same utilization voltage. This is done for preventing unknowing users from connecting equipment to a power distribution circuit which is not rated for handling the power requirement; thereby preventing overloading.

Applications
AC power connectors are used in diverse fields including:

* Commercial
* Industrial
* Residential
